Bulaga cleared to play Saturday

Iowa junior left tackle Bryan Bulaga was cleared to resume all football activities on Monday. The preseason all-American has not played since Iowa’s 17-16 opening win against Northern Iowa.

In his weekly press conference on Tuesday head coach Kirk Ferentz announced Bulaga has been fighting a thyroid condition, and has been medically cleared to play against Arkansas State on Oct. 3.

“The good news is it was something that just passes,” Ferentz said. “We don’t anticipate any further problems and he won’t be on medication the rest of his life … which was a possibility at the front end. I think all the drama has been resolved.”

“It was killing him not to be out there. Now he gets to get back into action, so we’re really happy for him.”
