H1N1 vaccine shipments start arriving

The Johnson County Public Health Department received 500 doses of FluMist, the nasal spray form of the H1N1 vaccine, Thursday morning.

Because of the limited amount of vaccine and further restrictions on who can receive the nasal spray, the first shipment will be used for health care workers providing direct care to patients and emergency services personnel who are often the first to make contact with an ill person in distress, according to a Johnson County press release.

Doug Beardsley, director of the Johnson County Public Health Department, said substantial quantities of the vaccine should be available by the end of the month.
