Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz revealed during his weekly press conference on Tuesday that junior wide receiver Paul Chaney, Jr., will miss the remainder of the 2009 season with an ACL injury.
Ferentz said the St. Louis native tweaked his knee during the Hawkeyes’ 30-28 win over Michigan on Oct. 10, and that the MRI done on Monday revealed swelling around the knee and much greater damage than originally thought.
With Chaney, Jr.’s injury, the Hawkeyes now are looking at true freshman wide receiver Keenan Davis getting more playing time with the other wideouts. Ferentz also said junior wide receiver Colin Sandeman will take over Chaney, Jr.’s spot on special teams returning punts. Sandeman filled in for the injured Hawkeye against Michigan.
Chaney, Jr., becomes the third Hawkeye to be sidelined for the rest of 2009, joining running back Jewel Hampton and cornerback Jordan Bernstine, both of whom were ruled out in August.
