UI officials were able to confirm that former Iowa football coach Forest Evashevski past away Friday evening. Evashevski had recently been diagnosed with liver cancer and was 91.
Evashevski coached the Hawkeyes for nine seasons and during his tenure, led Iowa to two Big Ten championships, as well as the only two Rose Bowl victories in the program’s history. At Iowa, Evashevski won 52 games as the Hawkeyes’ head coach, and 63 total.
After his coaching career, Evashevski took over as Iowa Athletics Director, which was a position he held from 1960-1970.

As a student I remember Forest Evashevski turning the Iowa football program around to be a winner.
