The Iowa wrestling team ousted Coe College, 39-3, Friday morning inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena to start the Iowa City Duals.

Junior Jake Kerr posted the Hawkeyes’ only loss during the dual meet, losing to sophomore Dale Handley, 4-3, after surrendering a takedown late in the third quarter.

Iowa grapplers Daniel Dennis (133), Brent Metcalf (149), and Jay Borschel (174) each managed first-period pins.

With the Hawkeyes starting at 125-pounds, redshirt freshman Matt McDonough opened the six-squad meet with a technical fall against Kohawk junior Clayton Rush.

At 165, senior Ryan Morningstar made his match against former-Hawkeye Nick LeClere interesting. Morningstar won by decision, 6-5, thanks in large to a riding time point after being called for stalling three times — all in the final period.

Iowa senior Phillip Keddy also delivered excitement at the end of his match with Kohawk senior Tyler Burkle at 184. Keddy avoided an upset with a last-second takedown to win, 8-6, plus riding time.
