Dance Marathon breaks fundraising record

For the 14th time, UI Dance Marathon broke its fund-raising record. This year, the group brought in $1,058,658.16.

This was the third year the group surpassed the $1 million mark. Last year’s tally rang in at $1,030,248.

Dance Marathon Business Directory Ben Friedman said this year’s record amount is especially impressive.

“We’re in the worst economic crisis in 70 years and you still raised…a lot of money,” he told a packed IMU Main Lounge.

The UI campus first saw Dance Marathon in 1995. Since then, the group has topped the previous year’s fundraising mark each year except in 2005. In its 16 year history, Dance Marathon has generated more than $8.5 million to support pediatric cancer patients and their families.
