Iowa women’s basketball team advances to Big Ten championship

The third-seeded Iowa women’s basketball team defeated the second-seeded Michigan State, 59-54, on Saturday to advance to the Big Ten Championship game on Sunday.

Junior Kachine Alexander had a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds, sophomore Kamille Wahlin had 13 points, and freshman Trisha Nesbitt added 10.

Trailing at 26-25 at halftime, the Hawkeyes outscored the Spartans 34-28 in the second half en route to the victory. Iowa was from 13-of-14 with Alexander going six-of-six.

Michigan State was led by Aisha Jefferson who had 22 points in the loss.

The Hawkeyes face either No. 10 Ohio State or Wisconsin in tomorrow’s championship game.
