A majority of Iowa City City Councilors said they’re open to the possibility of excepting split-venue bars from the 21 ordinance. However, the policy’s requirements would likely be unattainable for most venues.

Since taking the UI position in 2008, Loh has help lead the university through massive changes, including last year’s budget cuts. Insisting the school would emerge “stronger and leaner,” he commissioned a set of reports to improve education while saving money.

Mason took the helm at the UI in 2007 and had yet to see her pay increase, though she did receive a $50,000 bonus in 2008 which she donated to scholarship funds. She was denied a pay increase in 2008, in part because of the university’s handling of an on-campus sexual assault, and then turned one down in 2009 for budgetary reasons.

The state Board of Regents approved a project labor agreement for the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics’ $73 million outpatient clinic in Coralville during its meeting Thursday.
