Regents approve $73 million UIHC clinic

The state Board of Regents approved a project labor agreement for the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics’ $73 million outpatient clinic in Coralville during its meeting Thursday.

The agreement will require contractors hired for the project to pay certain wages, which are set in the project labor agreement. Gov. Chet Culver thanked the regents in a release on Thursday; earlier this year, he signed an executive order encouraging state agencies to use project labor agreements for major construction efforts.

However, some have expressed concern with the set-up, including the Iowa Associated Builders and Contractors.

Regent President David Miles told The Daily Iowan in June that the board is trying to arrangement with the UIHC clinic and have not implemented any policies that require the use of such agreements.

This will be the first project labor agreement used by the UI.

The Daily Iowan is on a publishing hiatus until Aug. 19. Check back then for more on this story.
