Former Iowa football player Brett Greenwood has awakened from the medically induced coma he has been in since early September, a Quad Cities TV station is reporting.
KWQC in Davenport, Iowa, reported that Greenwood’s family said the former all-Big Ten safety (2006-10) is standing and talking.
Greenwood reportedly collapsed while working out at his former high school on Sept. 9. Iowa players wore green stickers on their helmets for the Hawkeyes’ Sept. 24 game against Louisiana Monroe, the same game in which fans were encouraged to wear the color in support.
The Bettendorf, Iowa, native finished his Hawkeye career with 229 tackles and 12 interceptions. He signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in July, but the team cut him a few days before his collapse.
