LINCOLN, Neb. — The Iowa football team lost to No. 22 Nebraska, 20-7, Friday at Memorial Stadium.
The Hawkeyes (7-5, 4-4 Big Ten) were nearly shut out for the first time in 11 years. They finally scored with 3:26 remaining on a two-yard Marcus Coker touchdown run.
An inept offensive performance — particularly in the passing game — crippled the Hawkeyes and prevented them from establishing any momentum. James Vandenberg struggled, going 16-of-35 for 182 yards and an interception. Marvin McNutt was limited to only 29 receiving yards on four catches.
Rex Burkhead carried the ball a Nebraska-record 38 times for 160 yards and a touchdown.
Iowa was out-gained in terms of total offensive yardage, 385-270. The Hawkeyes also lost the time-of-possession battle, 37:47-22:13.
