The children are back on the dance floor, and they’re in charge now.

They were in complete control of the music between 9 and 10 a.m.

Dance Marathon “kiddos” chose their favorite songs to be played in the Main Lounge as part of KISS Country 96.5 Live Kids’ Show Hour.

The children’s playlist has been a change of pace, straying from frequently played songs like LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” and Rihanna’s “We Found Love.”

Dance Marathon children appeared on the big screens in the Main Lounge explaining their choice of song, and thanking the dancers for their efforts — just the motivation that some dancers said they needed being more than halfway through the Big Event.

Amanda Horan, a University of Iowa sophomore, said having the children choose the music is an awesome idea.

“It’s a great way for them to get involved if they can’t get here, and it brings us that much closer together,” Horan said.

Brittany Lenth, a UI junior, said the music should reflect the mission of the organization.

“I think the hour is great,” she said. “This event is all about [the children] and they should be able to pick the songs.”
