Sam Logic: B1G Freshman of the Week
Iowa freshman guard Sam Logic picked up her second-straight Big Ten Freshman of the Week award as recognition of her role in the Hawkeyes’ 58-57 win over Michigan on Feb. 16.
Logic collected her fourth double-double of the season — and second in a row — by scoring 12 points and pulling down 18 rebounds, a career-high. Half of the 5-9 guard’s boards came on the offensive side of the court.
The 18 boards are the most ever by an Iowa freshman, and are tied with Nebraska forward Jordan Hooper’s effort on Sunday for the most by any player in a Big Ten game this season. Michigan State’s Lykendra Johnson yanked down 20 in a nonconference game against IPFW in November.
The Racine, Wis., native buried a pull-up 3-pointer in transition with 1:16 left in the game against Michigan to pull Iowa within 2 points. The basket was one of three consecutive treys by the Hawkeyes over a 71-second stretch. Iowa had trailed by as many as 14 points in the game and had been held to 19 points in the first half.
Logic and the Hawkeyes travel to Evanston, Ill., to take on Northwestern on Thursday.
