Along with the Hawkeye faithful, members of Iowa women’s tennis team are still waiting for a new head coach.
Despite the athletic department advertising for the position on the university’s Human Resources website from Oct. 5-16, the team has yet to word of a new leader, Iowa volunteer assistant coach Chris Lueth said.
“To my knowledge no one has been brought to campus yet,” he said.
The Hawkeyes are allowed to meet with potential coaching candidates brought in by the athletic department. Lueth said the team is really close with each other, and the new coach has to enjoy the players’ company as well.
“The most important thing is that [the women] want someone who they get along with well, and who will step in and do a good job of maintaining the team unity,” he said. “There’s a solid foundation amongst the players.”
Even without a coach, the Hawkeyes have remained committed to their normal routine, continuing to practice and prepare for the Midwest Regionals.
“The girls have maintained a very good demeanor,” Lueth said. “They’ve been going through practices and going through the tournaments with the right kind of attitude. They haven’t been sidetracked or distracted by that very much at all.”
