A dreadful first 10 minutes ultimately doomed the Iowa men’s basketball team in a 60-46 loss at Michigan on Saturday. The loss drops the Hawkeyes to an 8-14 overall record and 2-7 in Big Ten play.
The Wolverines scored the game’s first 13 points, while Iowa didn’t score until the 13:10 mark in the first half when freshman Eric May sank two free throws for a 13-2 Michigan advantage.
Much like in the Big Ten tournament last March, the Wolverine duo of Manny Harris and DeShawn Sims scorched the Hawkeyes on Saturday. Both scored 20 points each, and Sims also hauled in 12 rebounds.
Sophomore Aaron Fuller lead Iowa with eight rebounds and 16 points — all of which came in the second half. The Hawkeyes shot an anemic 17-of-55 from the field, including 4-of-24 from 3-point range.
Iowa’s next game will be at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Wednesday when the Hawkeyes host Illinois at 7:30 p.m.
